É«ÂþÌìÌà best performing conservatoire in the People & Planet University League table

Monday 23 December 2024

The É«ÂþÌìÌà has once again excelled in the 2024/25 People & Planet University League table, securing its position as the top performing conservatoire and ranking among the top 10 universities in London.

The People & Planet University League table is a comprehensive and independent league table of UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance. It is published annually and assesses higher education establishments based on carbon emissions performance, resource usage, staff engagement and policy documentation.

The College excelled in several categories, with particularly high scores in Education for Sustainable Development and Staff and HR. Each year the College’s Green Week provides a set of sustainability focused activities for students and staff which have included bicycle maintenance, clothes mending workshops and drop-in sessions with the Director of Estates, allowing members of the É«ÂþÌìÌà community to suggest new initiatives for the coming year.

The ranking also highlighted achievements in operational strategies with a 100% score in Environmental Auditing and Management and for the College’s environmental policy. Sustainability is deeply embedded across all operations at the College, with ongoing efforts to minimise waste, increase recycling and further reduce water and energy consumption. Currently on track to reach the ambitious goal of becoming carbon net zero by 2035, the É«ÂþÌìÌà has already exceeded its target to reduce carbon emissions from gas and electricity by 73% by 2027 from a 2004/05 baseline, having already reduced it by 77% in 2023/24.

Aida Berhamovic, É«ÂþÌìÌà Director of Estates, commented: ‘I am delighted that the É«ÂþÌìÌà has once again secured its position as the top-performing conservatoire in the People and Planet League table. We take immense pride in this achievement, which highlights our ongoing commitment to environmental and social sustainability. This success is a testament to the efforts of our staff, students, and the entire community, all of whom actively support sustainability initiatives at the É«ÂþÌìÌÃ.’
