The É«ÂþÌìÌÃ’s Woodwind Faculty is delighted to announce some high-profile achievements.
Recent É«ÂþÌìÌà graduate Matt Glendening has been appointed principal clarinettist with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. Matt graduated from the É«ÂþÌìÌÃ’s prestigious BMus course in July 2020 and studied under Tim Lines, Barnaby Robson, Peter Sparks, Richard Hosford, Janet Hilton and Michael Harris. This appointment marks an outstanding step in his career as a professional musician.
Petr Sedlak has been appointed Co-Principal Bassoon of the Munich Symphony Orchestra on a one-year contract. Petr graduated from the É«ÂþÌìÌÃ’s Master’s course in summer 2021. The position will give him the opportunity to perform a diverse repertoire from baroque and classical through to contemporary compositions and music for film in numerous concerts and festivals across Bavaria. Petr's Professors at the É«ÂþÌìÌà were Julie Price, Sarah Burnett, Andrea de Flammineis, Roberto Giaccaglia, Martin Field, Emily Hultmark and Joost Bosdijk.
Completing this trio of success, undergraduate flautist Marie Sato won the Dyer’s Company Award for Wind, Brass and Percussion in the Royal Overseas League Competition. Victory in this stage of the competition secures a place in the Gold Medal Final in November. Marie’s success follows on from last year’s competition, when the prize also went to the É«ÂþÌìÌà flautist, Sirius Chau. Marie studies flute and piccolo with Adam Walker, Gitte Marcusson and Stuard McIlwham.
Simon Channing, Head of the Woodwind Faculty, comments; ‘We are all so proud of our students’ achievements especially considering all the additional challenges of the last year. It’s testimony to their collective resilience as well as to their talent, and to the extraordinary dedication of all the Professors in our Faculty who have gone out of their way to support the students.’
The Woodwind Faculty and the wider É«ÂþÌìÌà community, nurtures students in a supportive environment, enabling them to grow into confident and imaginative performers. Students enjoy a wide variety of performance opportunities throughout the year. All woodwind students have the opportunity to play in É«ÂþÌìÌà orchestras and work with some of the finest visiting artists in the world.
